911 Call Reveals Domestic Violence Inside South Carolina Legislator's Home

By

Domestic violence is one of the most frightening things that people all over the world struggle to face. It can occur with anyone and can effect everyone. Domestic violence does a myriad of undesirable things, from stirring distrust in the family to outright distance. Domestic violence can, if not nipped in the bud, spread like wildfire, endangering not just the ones involved but everyone around them.

From being charged as a misdemeanor to a felony, the act is determined through the severity of the damage. When two of the three children were heard in during this emergency call, the immediate action took place to stop the crime from getting any worse.

In the city of Aiken, South Carolina, an emergency call was made to the authorities. According to WLTX.com, the first call did not have anyone talking directly to the operator. The only thing that could be heard was "please stop" over and over, prompting the dispatcher to call the authorities. What had happened when the Aiken County Police arrived was a much more dangerous scene.

ABC News states that they arrested a South Carolina legislator and Republican Representative Chris Corley of Graniteville. According to the dispatcher, on the second call, the mother-in-law of Corley requested the authorities to be sent to the home of a man threatening to kill himself. When the dispatcher asked if the situation was that of the father beating the children, the mother-in-law clarified that what happened instead was the man beating his wife and threatening to kill himself. Corley stated that his wife tried to punch him after accusing him of cheating. The light scratch was indeed noted on his forehead.

A judge overseeing the dispute had set Corley's bond to $20,000 and also directed Corley to not contact his wife. On top of being barred from handling a firearm, Corley will also be charged for pointing a firearm at his wife as well as committing first-degree criminal domestic violence. If Corley turns out to be convicted, he could be facing up to 15 years in prison.
