Niece of US VP Biden gets conditional dismissal in Manhattan misdemeanor case

By

On Wednesday, a Manhattan court approved the conditional dismissal deal in relation to the charges against Caroline Biden, the niece of current US Vice President Joe Biden. The New York Daily News said the younger Biden was extended a conditional dismissal deal over charges regarding her attacking a local cop at her New York apartment.

According to the NY Daily News, Biden was violent towards state cops when the latter responded to a scuffle that happened at the ritzy Desbrosses St. building in Tribeca. The scuffle stemmed from a row Biden had with roommate Adrienne Reynolds over rent money the former owed to the latter.

Despite her absence in the Manhattan Criminal Court for a hearing to resolve the misdemeanor case, her lawyers Ira London and James Liguori appeared on her behalf. The duo said in court that their client was remorseful over her actions, and had taken steps to ensure that her violent attacks will not happen again. Liguori also added that Biden is currently under inpatient treatment to deal with anger management and other issues that had risen from her September 17 scuffle with Reynolds and the city cops.

Assistant District Attorney Alyssa Gunther said Biden, who was charged with obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest and harassment, has been given a conditional dismissal as none of the officers involved in Biden's rage-filled fit were injured and that Biden agreed to continue with her therapy for the next few months. NY Daily News said Biden needs to stay out of trouble for about half a year before her case gets dismissed and sealed by the court.

Liguori and London presented a sworn affidavit of Biden stating that their client will accept the offer extended by the US prosecutors, which led to the judge approving the conditional dismissal deal.

Ligouri added, "Obviously she's committed to getting better and we thank the District Attorney for the way they helped resolved this matter. She's truly sorry for what she did. There's no question of what went on and she's truly remorseful."
