A decision was finalized by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge David J. Cowan to dismiss the case of media mogul Sumner Redstone and former girlfriend Manuela Herzer. Redstone's wishes revealed through a video deposition moved the judge to dismiss Herzer's allegations of his inability to make medical decisions for himself.
As reported by The Guardian, the Los Angeles County Court judge decided that the court need not interfere on the matter, when Redstone clearly made his intentions clear. In the video deposition, Redstone stated despite his speech impediment that he wants Herzer out of his life.
In the video, Redstone also accused Herzer of stealing money from him. According to Reuters, Redstone named Herzer as his health care agent in September 2015, but removed her a month later. He has since enlisted his daughter, Shari, to take care of his health care decisions since Herzer's ejection from the post. Herzer was also removed from Redstone's will four days after.
In her case, Herzer asserted that Redstone was brainwashed by a "spy network" headed by Shari Redstone. She also questioned whether Redstone's speech therapist were interpreting the elder Redstone's words without bias.
However, per Variety, Redstone's camp stated that it was Herzer's doings that triggered Redstone's anger. "It is Ms. Herzer's own conduct that has reinforced Mr. Redstone's negative feelings toward her, and she has no one to blame but herself," they wrote in the brief submitted to the court.
But the Los Angeles judge's decision will not put the entire matter to rest as Herzer's lawyer, Pierce O'Donnell confirmed that Herzer has submitted a new lawsuit of $70m against Shari Redstone for allegedly interfering with her expected inheritance and invasion of privacy.
Herzer's camp maintained that Redstone is being controlled by people who wish to sway his decisions. Meanwhile, Shari Redstone simply thanked the court for the decision they reached, and dismissed Herzer's another attempt as a total fiction and a baseless attack against their family.
