John Kasich Drops Out of White House Bid Leaving Donald Trump The Presumptive GOP Nominee

By

Hours after Texas Senator Ted Cruz halted his campaign for the GOP nomination, Ohio Governor John Kasich suspended his presidential bid. This makes Donald Trump the only candidate for the Republican Party.

Kasich has been trying to win delegates in the past primaries but remained to be on the last spot of the presidential race for the Republican Party. He was planning to reach the July convention but after Trump won big in Indiana, he decided to suspend his campaign.

According to The Guardian, the Ohio governor was the last of the 16 candidates to suspend his campaign. He gave a speech at an event in Columbus that he knows the Lord has a purpose for him. He added that suspending his campaign has renewed his faith in the Lord that the will show him the way forward and "fulfill the purpose" of his life.

The former House budget chairman did not mention Trump in his last speech as a presidential candidate and he also did not say whether or not he would support the GOP frontrunner as the GOP nominee.

If Kasich remained in the race, with only 153 delegates supporting him after winning only one state during the primaries and caucuses, it would be mathematically impossible for him to be the GOP nominee, The Telegraph reported. Trump now has 1,047 pledged delegates making him closer to the needed 1,237 delegates to cement his nomination.

More on Kasich's speech, Time reported that he also thanked his staff, the volunteers, and his supporters. He addressed the people in Ohio saying he cannot tell them how much he appreciated the opportunity given to him to be the leader of the state.

As for Trump, he had his first ever interview as the possible GOP nominee and he discussed matters involving Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and immigration. Trump was interviewed on CNN by Wolf Blitzer and he stood firm with his belief that Obama was not born in the United States. He also said that Clinton was the reason for the birtherism movement, which means someone is secretly born outside the United States.

As for immigration, he said that it is a disaster as the U.S. lets thousands of people inside the nation who do not have documentation and paperwork.
