Jill Ratner is appointed as the new leader of litigation team in Fox Entertainment Group. The company on Thursday announced her promotion to become the new Executive Vice President of Litigation and she will oversee all ligitation and claims across the entire Fox companies.
Legal Executive Vice President at Fox Gary D. Roberts is still the superior of Jill Ratner. In his announcement according to Hollywood Reporter, Mr. Roberts is promoted to lead the entire litigation team in Fox group.
"Not only has Jill been instrumental in Fox's successful litigation of many high-profile cases over the past 12 years, she has become an exemplary business executive within the company," Gary D. Roberts said in his announcement. "She has earned this greatly expanded role."
Prior to her tenure at Fox, Deadline reported that she worked as litigation counsel at two major law firms in LA and at the Motion Picture Association of America. In her career at Fox, Jill Ratner had been working on one of the high profile copyright lawsuit WNET v. Aereo and FilmOn X injunction case.
In the WNET v. Aereo lawsuit, Supreme Court found that Aero's service that provided over-the-air television signals to subscribers' digital devices qualified as a public performance of copyrighted works. While Jill Ratner and her legal team also brought Fox Broadcasting to win a preliminary injunction against FilmOn X, which prohibited the company to retransmit copyrighted programs over the Internet.
Her work ethics has been praised by colleagues and superior alike. That includes Fox Networks Group Executive Vice President and General Counsel Rita Tuzon who admired her knowledge and expertise. Jill was once worked under Tuzon.
"Jill has been a critical contributor to our television business strategy. Her vast knowledge and expertise is invaluable, and we are thrilled her outstanding work is being recognized," said Rita Tuzon.
Rita Tuzon is one of Jill Ratner's mentor and both of them according to Multi Channel is listed as one of a Multi Channel's Wonder Women. Ratner was a member of MCN's 2016 Wonder Women class, while Tuzon is a MCN's Wonder Woman in 2010.
Jill Ratner earned her bachelor's degree in communications studies from The University of California at Los Angeles, she graduated magna cum laude. Following her graduation, she receive her law degree from University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
Her resume included two major law firms, Hogan & Hartson and Troop Meisinger. Hogan & Hartson now become Hogan Lovells, while Troop Meisinger was acquired Akin Gump in the late 2000. Jill Ratner joined Fox in 2004.
Now, Jill Ratner has been appointed as the new leader of litigation team in Fox as the Executive Vice President of Litigation. She will oversee all litigations anc claims in the Fox Companies and she still report to Gary Roberts, the Executive Vice President of Fox's legal group.
