Former defensive lineman Dana Stubblefield has been charged with raping a woman with mental disability. The ex-NFL player now faces serious prison sentence following the indictment of the Santa Clara District attorney's office.
According to TMZ, Stubblefield, 45, allegedly sexually assaulted a mentally disabled woman in April 2015. The alleged incident happened after the victim came to Stubblefield's home in Santa Clara for a babysitting job interview. Officials stated that the woman was unconscionably assaulted because of her mental disorder and physical disabilities.
The victim, 31, went to the police station immediately to report the alleged assault. According to the officials, they felt there was an evidence to charge him with 5 counts of felony, which include rape by force, rape of a victim incapable of giving consent, oral copulation by force, oral copulation with a person incapable of giving consent and false imprisonment, the court filing stated.
Deputy District Attorney Tim McInerny issued a statement regarding the former 49ers'case. "This was a crime of violence against a vulnerable victim. She was looking for a job and she was unconscionably assaulted," McInerny stated as NBC Sports quoted.
The woman also claimed Stubblefield gave her $80 and was told to leave. Forensic reports allegedly shows that the DNA found from the woman matched Stubblefield's. Prosecutors said if convicted from the felony charges, Stubblefield faces substantial prison sentence.
The incident happened in Stubblefield's house in Morgan Hill, California. His bail has been set at $250k, Daily News reported. Officials also want Stubblefield to submit to an AIDS test.
He played 10 years in the NFL for the 49ers from 1993 through 1997, Washington from 1998 through 2000, the 49ers again in 2001 and 2002, and the Raiders in 2003. A three-time Pro Bowler, Stubblefield was the NFL defensive rookie of the year and the 1997 NFL defensive player of the year.
