A Massachusetts state trooper has been placed on leave after fellow troopers charged him with attempted strangulation and domestic abuse of his live-in girlfriend Friday night, April 22.
The 45-year-old state trooper, whose identity was not released, is expected to be arraigned on Monday April 25, at Ayer District Court. The case will be prosecuted by the Middlesex District Attorney's Office. The live-in girlfriend, whose name was not identified, was advised of her right to seek a restraining order, Boston Globe has learned.
With that being said, the state police stated about keeping the parties names unidentifed. The police stated, "In withholding the trooper's name, per state law that prohibits police from releasing names of domestic violence suspects, the arrested man's name is not included in this release.", Lucena Informacion has cited.
State police narrated that the trooper was taken into custody from his Boxborough home on a Saturday night. He is being charged with assault on a family member and strangulation or suffocation. The unidentified trooper allegedly choked his live-in girlfriend the night before he was arrested.
According to Sentinel and Enterprise, evidences suggest that the trooper suddenly and violently assaulted his girlfriend on Friday in their apartment. The trooper restrained his girlfriend's movement, choked her with his hands on her throat and at one point, put her in a chokehold before she was able to break free.
The girlfriend waited until the trooper fell asleep that night before fleeing the apartment and reporting the assault. Officers then arrived at the apartment yesterday to arrest the trooper.
The accused trooper joined the Massachusetts state police 14 years ago, and was working out of the Concord Barracks at the time of his arrest. State police will hold a hearing this week with details of the trooper's futy duty status. An internal affairs investigation has also been opened against the trooper.
