Scott Krissinger: Cape May New Jersey Police Officer Saves Unconscious Man From Burning Truck (Video)

By

Scott Krissinger, a police officer in Cape May, New Jersey, risked his own life to pull 61-year-old Gerald Ferill, who sat trapped and unconscious in a burning truck, out to safety, The Huffington Post and NBC40 reported.

Krissinger's rescue, which was captured by his dashboard camera, showed the resuce as he dragged Ferrill out of the car, even while flames had engulfed the vehicle.

"A witness told police that prior to the fire, the truck was driving with a flat tire and loud sounds were coming from the engine," CNN reported.

"I had a million things going through my head. I just remember the smoke coming out. I couldn't see anything," Krissinger told the station. The police officer is a seven-year veteran of the force.

"I think any of the officers of the Cape May Police Department would've done the same thing. I truly do. It just happened to me," Krissinger told NBC Philadelphia.

"When I opened the door I didn't know what to expect. I couldn't really see anything. I just reached my hand in and felt him and pulled him out," Krissinger added.

"He's a hero in every sense of the word," said Police Capt. Rob Sheehan.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, police said.
