Sumner Redstone's granddaughter joins mental competency lawsuit

Sumner Redstone's granddaughter wants to join Redstone's ex-girlfriend in a lawsuit questioning the mental competency of the media mogul. Keryn Redstone, daughter of Sumner Redstone's son Brent Redstone, is now asking to be named as co-petitioner.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, ex-girlfriend Manuela Herzer filed an ex parte application on Tuesday to amend her lawsuit which sought to control Sumner Redstone's care. In response to a request for a statement, the lawyer of Herzer said that Keryn confirmed who her grandfather wanted in charge of his health and medical decisions, and it is Shari Redstone and her stockbroker.

Lawyers for Herzer have previously accused Shari Redstone, daughter of Sumner Redstone, of waging a campaign of deceit, lies, and harassment that aim to exclude his ex-girlfriend from Redstone's life.

The granddaughter describes the famous family patriarch in a court declaration as a prisoner in his home, reports Variety. She said that her "grumpy" became preoccupied with sex and the nurse was using that fixation to manipulate Sumner Redstone and to assert greater control over the household.

In contrast to the statement made by the lawyers of Sumner Redstone that he pushed Manuela Herzer out of his home, Keryn Redstone said that attorneys and others forced to remove Herzer in Sumner's life, causing distress to the 92-year-old businessmen. Keryn Redstone also said that she could tell that he was heartbroken and that he misses the woman who was the love of his life.

Sumner Redstone controls a majority of the voting stock at CBS and Viacom, and shareholders have closely followed the lawsuit for what it could reveal about his mental competency. Reuters reported that the appearance of Keryn Redstone as a witness could help Herzer's established more credibility at trial.

Representatives for Sumner Redstone made no comment about Keryn's statement. Keryn Redstone said she last saw her grandfather in February staring into space and unaware of her presence.
