Authorities have responded to a shooting at Brashear High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,. Three students were wounded, and all have non-life-threatening injuries, CBS Pittsburgh reported. Homicide detectives told Channel 11 News that three men walked out of nearby woods and fired shots at three students were shot as they were coming out of the school. The detectives said the shooters were described as three black males wearing all black. The shooters ran back into the woods after firing shots, police said, as reported by Channel 11 News.
Ebony Pugh, the Pittsburgh school district spokeswoman, said that the students were shot as they walked to a vehicle they had all taken to school earlier in the day, The Associated Press reported. A male 17-year-old is said to have sustained a graze wound to the head, but is reportedly stable and conscious while a 15-year-old was hit in the elbow.
School officials said that the shooter came out of the woods near the school and shot the three students, CBS Pittsburgh also reported. The three victims were taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital and Allegheny General Hospital, news report said.
Police and K-9 units continue to search the woods near the school for the gunman shortly before 3 p.m. The shooter prompted Pittsburgh Mayor-Elect Bill Peduto to urge "all residents in the area to lock their homes and stay indoors while police continue to search" for the shooter. The lockdown has since been lifted.
Police continue to investigate whether the incident is related "to something that happened a month ago," as the police spokesman added that the victims apparently knew the gunman, news reports said.
