Dethroned Puerto Rican beauty queen Sued Local Miss Universe Officials Over a Stripped off Title

A Puerto Rico beauty queen is taking legal action against pageant organizers after she was dethroned as the country's representative for Miss Universe. However, the pageant organizers said, they stripped her title because of her attitude problem.

Kristhielee Caride sued Miss Universe Puerto Rico organizers with a lawsuit worth $3 million on Thursday, seeking to return the crown and the prizes she won, according to CBS News. Upon obtaining the title, she won a car, plastic surgery and a seven-day cruise as prizes. Caride was dethroned from her title as Miss Universe Puerto Rico a month ago.

Her court filing named PR Crown Entertainment and officials including Desiree Lowry, national director of Miss Universe Puerto Rico as the defendant over alleged, breach of contract and contractual damages. According to the representing attorney for Lowry, Antonio Sagardia, who was a former Justice Secretary in Puerto Rico, there's nothing to talk about the issue. "Our decision is final," he said.

The Puerto Rican beauty was dethroned over being dismissive, stating she don't like being in front of camera while on an interview with a local media and was later on criticized, according to Daily News. Caride did not apologize following her statement and made excuse of having personal problems, Lowry told the reporters.

The national director of Miss Universe Puerto Rico also added, the beauty queen postponed her appearances because she said she has an appointment with her physician. Caride's lawsuit also stated that she suffered depression and was hospitalized over the dethronement of her title.

Caride wrote in Facebook last month, regarding the issue. She stated that beauty queens are not exempt from having a bad day. "I allowed my feelings to get in the way of my work," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted. She apologized and said she was turning over her sash with dignity even though she disagreed with the decision.

The national director of Miss Universe Puerto Rico announced the new Miss Universe Puerto Rico on Thursday during the press conference held in a San Juan capital restaurant.
