One eyewitness said that a man with fatiues opened fire after getting through a security checkpoint at Los Angeles International Airport, Bloomberg reported. At least three people were injured, as the airport was evacuated, CNN reported.
A Transportation Security Administration agent was shot and killed and another security agent was wounded, NBC News reported.
The gunman reportedly approached a document checker, then pulled a firearm and fired one shot at the security officer, according to NBC News' Pete Williams.
The attack occurred in Terminal 3, news reports said. The gunman has since been brought into custody, and the gunman opened fire reportedly at about 9:30 a.m. PST.
Five officials said that they were responding to assist multiple patients with injuries and the city was placed on 'tactical alert,' as first responders were called in.
43-year-old Brian Adamick told The Los Angeles Times that he was getting ready to fly to Chicago for his brother's wedding and was boarding a Spirit Airlines flight.
"While I was on the tarmac, I heard two gunshots from the same area where the people had been running and screaming," he told the newspaper.
Adamick reportedly saw a wounded TSA agent board one of the buses. The man's ankle had been bloody.
"It looked like it was straight out of the movies.," Adamick said.
"I got shot, I'm fine," the TSA agent told him, according to The Los Angeles Times.
Airline passengers continue to be evacuated to the tarmac at the airport.
