'The Expendables 4' is a planned action film intended as the sequel to 2014's 'The Expendables 3'. It was rumored that John Cusack has joined the wide ensemble cast together with popular WWF wrestlers including Hulk Hogan, Dwayne Johnson and Steve Austin.
According to Day Herald, the fourth installment in the highly popular 'The Expendables' action films is yet to come into fruition but a number of casting rumors have already caused quite a stir online. One of the latest rumors claims that John Cusack has been tagged to play a key role in the new film.
The original film released in 2010 starred an ensemble cast of Hollywood's biggest action stars including Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Randy Couture, Steve Austin, Mickey Rourke and Terry Crews. A number of these actors returned for the sequels 'The Expendables 2' and 'The Expendables 3' to reprise their respective roles however reports alleged that most of them may not be returning for a planned fourth film.
According to /Film, Crews revealed that he would get involved in 'The Expendables 4' only if Stallone returned as well. He said, "I have to say, with Sly, I think it looks like he's going to get an Oscar... It's a matter of whether he'll be in it. If he got the Golden Globe, he got the Oscar, there's a lot more things that are going to be offered to him, but if Sly is in it, I'm in." It was previously reported that Stallone may work behind-the-scenes instead of returning to his role on-screen as the lead protagonist Barney Ross.
It is interesting to note that Stallone directed and co-wrote the screenplay for the first film in the series before leaving the directorial chair for Simon West and Patrick Hughes for the second and third film, respectively.
When asked if Stallone would remain involved in the franchise, Crews admitted, "He might... He might, but whatever Sly says I'm doing. He's like my dad. He's literally my dad in the business. If Sly's like, 'I'm out of this thing,' I don't see myself doing it."
According to another article on Movie News Guide, professional wrestler-turned-actors Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin a.k.a. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson may possibly join the new cast in replacement of actors who may not be returning for a sequel. It was reported that Hogan may play the new film's main villain.
'The Expendables 4' is a planned fourth installment in the popular action franchise created by David Callaham. Its predecessor, 'The Expendables 3', earned $206 million against a $90 million budget and received mixed ratings from critics.
