Gloria Allred: High Profile Attorney Describes Motorcyclist Edwin Mieses As 'Innocent Victim' In New York City SUV Gang Assault (Video)

The wife of Edwin Mieses, the motorcyclist who was critically injured in last Sunday's melee between bikers and an SUV driver, has hired the attorney Gloria Allred to represent her and talk about her husband's condition, ABC News reported.

Allred described Mieses as an "innocent victim" trying to "defuse the situation."

The incident started Sunday afternoon as Alex Lien and his wife, Rosalyn Ng, planned to celebrate their wedding anniversary with their 2-year-old daughter, Ng said in a statement on Thursday. She then said they swarmed by a motorcycle rally on Manhattan's West Side Highway.

But a biker who was along for the ride said Lien was driving erratically on the highway moments before the initial confrontation occurred.

Allred said in a press conference on Friday that Mieses was taken out of a medically induced coma on Wednesday and remains in enormous pain. He has yet been interviewed by police about his role in the confrontation , whichi included 20 to 30 motorcyclists assaulting Lien after the incident.

Allred said that Mieses suffered spinal injuries and two broken legs, Allred said. By the time, the other bikers caught up with Lien, one biker smashed his window, he was assaulted in broad daylight in Manhattan while reportedly an undercover police officer did little to stop it..

"I love him so much it tears me up that anyone could think that Edwin in any way deserves what happened to him," Dayana Meija, Mieses wife said at the press conference. Edwin Mieses Sr. was also present.

The couple has yet to decide whether to decide whether to file a lawsuit, and have yet to press charges against Lien.

Meanwhile 37-year-old Reginald Chance, described as a career criminal appeared at Manhattan Criminal Court, on gang assault and other charges, was reportedly the only to smash Lien's window before beating him.

Chance's lawyers said he would not challenge allegations that his client was caught on video using his chrome helmet to smash Lien's window Gregory Watts, his attorney, said that his rage was justified, considering what had happened to Mieses.

"It is entirely reasonable to try and identify the driver after a motor-vehicle accident," Watts said.

Chance - who has 21 prior arrests for charges ranging from drugs to robbery to gun possession - was ordered held in lieu $100,000 bond or $75,000 cash.
