Stephen King's ‘It’ Remake gets R-rating; Principal photography begins late 2016

'It' remake is an upcoming horror film based on the Stephen King novel of the same name. The new live-action adaptation is set to receive an R-rating for violence and gore. Production for the film has finally resumed after a long delay and is set to begin principal photography later in the year under director Andres Muschietti.

According to Consequence of Sound, the upcoming remake of the classic horror film will be getting an R-rating. Producer Roy Lee confirmed that production for the long-percolating project will finally commence later this year.

Lee revealed, "We are very close to turning in the final draft of the script... It's mainly working on it for budgeting purposes to make it fit within the budget that we have. It will hopefully be shooting later this year. We just got the California tax credit... Gary Doberman [sic] wrote the most recent draft working with Andy Muscetti [sic], so it's being envisioned as two movies."

Director Cary Fukunaga, best known for his work on the popular 'True Detective' television series, was originally attached to helm the film under New Line Cinema but eventually exited the project. According to Entertainment Weekly, Fukunaga admitted that creative differences with the studio led to his decision of dropping the film.

He said, "Ultimately, we and New Line have to agree on the kind of movie we want to make, and we just wanted to make different movies. It's like a relationship: you can try to make the other person who you want them to be, but it's impossible really to change. You just have to work."

Muschietti later stepped in to serve as director. The Argentine filmmaker is known for his work on the 2013 supernatural horror film 'Mama', which starred Jessica Chastain, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Megan Charpentier.

According to Cheat Sheet, Lee said that both films in the two-part installment will be rated R as Muschietti may be exploring its more mature content including violence and gore. He said, "It is very close to the source material in one way but very different if you look at it as a literary piece of work... We're taking it and making the movie from the point of view of the kids, and then making another movie from the point of view of the adults, that could potentially then be cut together like the novel... But it's gonna be a really fun way of making this movie."

King's 1986 novel followed seven children terrorized by an evil shapeshifting entity that exploited their fears while hunting them for prey. The supernatural being was most commonly depicted as a middle-aged male clown named Pennywise. The novel was later adapted into a television miniseries in the 1990s.

'It' remake is an upcoming live-action adaptation of the Stephen King novel of the same name. It will star Will Poulter as the evil clown Pennywise and will be directed by horror film director Andres Muschietti.
