Marijuan considers former Kirchner official Ricardo Jaime’s legal situation “complicated”

U.S. Attorney Guillermo Marijuan considered the procedural situation of the former Transport Secretary Ricardo Jaime "complicated." The U.S. Attorney also said "jurisprudencialmente is an element highly valued" when evaluating the three previous convictions against former officials as he dictated preventive detention.

According to Buenos Aires Herald, the legal situation of Ricardo Jaime is "complicated," as claimed by Federal Prosecutor Marijuan. The prosecutor made this comment after the detention of the former Transport Secretary as part of a probe into accused irregularities in the purchase of train cars.

In his recent statements to the La Red radio station, the U.S. Attorney Marijuan pointed out the three sentences Jamie has been persecuted with over the past years. The most recent is part of the Once Tragedy trial, a "highly regarded element" for judicial authorities probing him for alleged fraud in the 2005 procurement of used trains from Spain and Portugal.

In his interview with the radio station, the federal tax assessed that "the procedural table added to the facts investigated by federal judge Julian Ercolini and prosecutor Federico Delgado led to order the arrest." He also recalled that in 2013, in an investigation into alleged fraud, Claudio Bonadio judge ordered his arrest, despite which, Jamie was not delivered.

He still remained a fugitive until the Federal Court of Appeals rejected the remand, as reported by Diario LA PRENSA. Marijuan even concluded that the "whole picture speaks a flight risk."

"The legal situation of Ricardo Jaime is complicated; he already has three sentences: one in Córdoba for having tried to take a card during a raid, the Once conviction and a sentence in a trial for bribes in an investigation that we carried out in my office," the U.S. prosecutor confirmed. "That legal framework along with the events investigated by Federal Judge Julián Ercolini and prosecutor Federico Delgado have led to the order of detention," Marijuan explained. He also added that such "framework" made judicial authorities consider an "escape probability" situation that justified Jaime's detention on Saturday.

Ambito claimed that the former Kirchner official was under arrest for alleged irregularities in the purchase of trains. They were transferred from Cordoba to Buenos Aires aboard a truck of the distribution of color white and green patent OZE180, which entered the gates of the Sentinel building. The truck had left Cordoba before 13 and was scheduled to arrive around midnight, but it arrived in the city after 22 minutes.

Meanwhile, the ex-Transport Secretary will remain detained in that unit in character incommunicado until next Monday. He will then be transferred to the office of Judge Ercolini, who would take their testimony in trial of the alleged overpricing in the purchase of the trains.
