The recent regional tension that is happening in the Korean peninsula has troubled Chinese President Xi Jinping. This is the very reason he is now calling all the parties involved to refrain from making any destructive comments that can increase the tension and impair the security measures of other countries as well as the balance between the regions.
During the Nuclear Security Summit (NSS), Xi addressed his concerns on the Korean Peninsula situation where he had a separate meeting with President Barrack Obama and South Korea President Park Geun-Hye as per CRI English.
In 2014, Xi also attended the NSS in Hague.
He is scheduled to make an opening statement on the plenary session to expand his country's nuclear security policy, present China's new measures and achievements, and put forth a new series of proposals on beefing up global nuclear security, as reported by Xinhua.net.
The recent tension that is building up in the Northeast Asia after the nuclear test and satellite launch by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea has been Xi's concern, although the issue is not included on the NSS agenda.
President Xi told Obama and Park that his country has an unwavering will to remove the nuclear power in the Korean Peninsula. He said they will safeguard the stability of the area and will be there on every relevant issue to start a meeting or a dialogue with any involved parties. According to Euro News, the Chinese stand ready to make efforts in order to continue the talks within the framework of six-party talks.
In his personal meeting with Park, Xi stressed out that the right way to settle the issue is through dialogues and consultations. Park, on the other hand, said that her country is opening its doors for China regarding the relevant issues that may arise. Obama, for his part, said the two sides have extensive common interests in the Asia-Pacific region and his country is willing to work with China to control their differences in a constructive manner.
