Welsh footballer Ched Evans still believes he will return in ther professional football scene before the end of the season despite his rape conviction appeal scheduled to be heard this week. The former football Sheffield United and Welsh international star was sentenced to five years imprisonment in 2012 following his rape case.
Ched Evans was found guilty of raping a 19 year old girl in a Rhyl hotel in Wales, according to Daily Mail. Evans aims to overturn his conviction in order to make a comeback on his football career after spending five years in prison in 2012, but was released after serving half his sentence.
The 27 year old Sheffield United striker has maintained his innocence and the Court of Appeal will either uphold his conviction or repeal it entirely for the upcoming hearing on Tuesday. The Sun reported, his representing lawyers are expected to argue their claims, regarding police did not follow correct procedures, and the judge misdirected jurors and the missing CCTV footage.
Sheffield United also claimed that they will come to offer Evans a chance to return if he the Welsh footballer is cleared from the conviction. "He could be pulling his boots on in a few weeks. He has kept himself fit but hasn't played competitive football for several years so he'll take a while to get match fit," the said source quoted.
According to Mirror, a new statement was released by the victim, stating that she her drink may have been spiked, which will be used as part of the Appeal Court process. "We are informed she gave evidence to their investigator which could prove significant," an insider told the source.
Evans has always admitted having sex with the victim but claimed that the encounter was consensual. He was convicted of raping her after a jury heard that he along with a friend, who was found not guilty, lured a drunk woman back to their hotel and attacked her.
