Google Nexus 4 Receives Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow Upgrade via NitrogenOS: How to Install

Google Nexus 4 just received support for upgrade to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow via NitrogenOS custom ROM. NitrogenOS offers exclusive features on top of Doze and other great stuffs.

Google Nexus 4 can now be updated to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow using the NitrogenOS custom build. NitrogenOS is a brand new ROM. At its early stage, the ROM has already been proven stable.

Before proceeding with the installation of the firmware, here are some tips that have to be noted first:

  • Use only the ROM on Google Nexus 4 Occam versions;
  • Make sure phone is rooted and has custom recovery like CWM installed;
  • Perform a Nandroid backup of the phone's setting; and
  • Install Google Apps package to include Google apps (Gmail, Play Store, Calendar, etc.) in the update.
  • Avoid installing the ROM to other units for risk reasons. Neither this site nor developers of the OmniROM will be held responsible for such damage.

To update Google Nexus 4 Occam to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow using NitrogenOS, here's a step-by-step guide:

1. Download Android 6.0.1 NitrogenOS and Google Apps package on PC.

2. Connect phone to PC using a USB cable.

3. Copy downloaded zip files from PC then paste to phone's memory or SD card.

4. Switch off device and plug it out from the PC.

5. Go to Recovery Mode by simultaneously press holding volume up, home and down and power buttons.

6. Once in ClockWork Recovery, choose 'wipe data/factory reset.'

7. Choose 'wipe cache partition.'

8. Choose 'wipe cache/dalvik' to protect phone when it gets into any boot loops or other troubles.

9. Go to main menu and choose 'Install zip from SD card.'

10. Select 'Choose zip from SD card.'

11. Wait for the installation to complete.

12. Choose 'Reboot System.'

Check the software version now.
