The decision to bring back Jat quota bill, which has already failed the legal test once, was taken once again during a meeting of the BJP legislators on Sunday. It also falls short of the Jat demand to be included in the OBC category.
According to Yahoo! News, the Haryana government has decided to bring back a bill in the Vidhan Sabha to provide 10 percent reservation to Jats and four castes under the Special Backward Class or SBC category. But as the Congress government previously took the bill, the court only dismissed it.
The ruling failed the legal test once. However, during a meeting of the BJP legislator, it was included again in the discussion.
NYOOZ claimed that, while the Jat reservation issue and the Sutlej Yamuna Link Canal issue gathered up by the neighbouring Punjab, the Haryana Vidhan Sabha's budget session is allegedly most likely to be chaotic. On the issue of Sutlej Yamuna Link Canal, all of the parties except the Congress had already submitted a memorandum to the Governor.
The memorandum aims to stop the approval of the proposed bill by Punjab to top the land acquired for construction of SYL. However, Khattar government could not search for any value of the issue regarding the water share of Haryana since the Punjab Cabinet already gave consent for the bill to be discussed during a Punjab Assembly on Monday.
The leaders of Haryana unit of Congress met up with the Punjab and Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solangki and demanded that the President's decision be imposed in the state. In the memo submitted to Solanki, the Congress has states that he should not read out the Governor's address of the failed Haryana government. The demand to halt the bill to stop the acquisition for SYL was also raised during the meeting, as reported by The Indian Express.
Moreover, the Congress revealed that the meet up called by the government for the discussion on the issue of the quota for Jats was about the government's prerogative touring of the bill. The agenda of the discussion was also for the opposition to present its views regarding the Vidhan Sabha.
The Two-hour gathering resulted in the BJP legislators' 10 percent reservation being given to Jats, Tyagis, Rors, Bishnois, and Jat Sikhs under the SBC category. Additionally, the 27 percent of the Other Backward Class quota will not be included.
Meanwhile, Jat leaders are still demanding that they should be provided with reservation by expanding the 27 percent OBC quota. In fact, in a letter to the Chief Minister, the All India Jat Aarakshan Samiti has demanded that the OBC quota be increased from 27 up to 30 percent.
