Android N Preview had been revealed since last March 10 with a slew of new features to look forward to. Although the upcoming Android version stays unnamed as of now, it was already leaked that Android N features are as sweet as what the letter N stands for.
Android N, as revealed, introduced two newcomers among many others-split-screen multitasking and the picture-in-picture mode. Take a closer look at them.
Split-screen Multitasking
Although split-screen multitasking has never been a new idea at all to some Android users, this feature will prove to be useful in many ways despite it late to be offered on the table. For quite some time already, many Android owners are well aware that Google has been working on developing the multi-window mode on phone screens.
With the split-screen ability, multiple apps can be used on the same screen at the same time not to mention in picture-in-picture mode (see below for details) also. However, developers are still on the verge of allowing the multi-window element of apps in order to function in split-screen mode.
This can be done by adjusting the sizes of each side of the split, or set the least permissible aspect of a split window so that user interface will not be forced to break. Scaling of the user interface should automatically adjust given that apps can make it at varying resolutions and screen orientations (landscape ad portrait).
Split-screen can be activated through a button on the overview screen.
Picture-in-picture Mode
What is more exciting about Android N is almost similar to the split-screen feature. Picture-in-picture mode will let a windowed app to drift over the user interface. However, Google has tried this on Android TV because it is purposely made for larger devices as such. Although smartphones are quiet far from the picture-in-picture mode for now, many hoped that is must at least function on tablets.
