The Mexican government has alleged on Monday that drug kingpin Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman is attempting a movement that will try to loosen the security measure at the maximum-security prison he is staying at. This is the same prison where he escaped from last year.
The reports about El Chapo's alleged campaign comes exactly two months after he was recaptured. According to Yahoo News, national security commissioner Renato Sales said in a statement that the attempts of the drug cartel leader comes after his supposed daughter claimed to British Publication 'The Guardian' that the government betrayed her father. The woman claiming to be his daughter added that El Chapo has had arrangements with the government regarding his escape.
Sales pointed out that the allegations of the woman against the government are baseless and lack proof. He continued to insist that the government has not made any deals with Guzman, The Washington Post reported. He added that no "treaties, nor alliances, nor pacts" have been made with El Chapo.
According to him, the interview with the woman claiming to be the drug leader's daughter is just to divert the attention so as El Chapo could once again loosen his security.
However, one of the lawyers of Guzman, Jose Refugio Rodriguez, said his client also questioned the interview of his supposed daughter on Monday, The Dallas Morning News reported. Guzman reportedly asked him what was happening and why is she making such unfortunate statements. Rodriguez added that Guzman thinks her statements are "really bad," noting that someone might have forced the woman to say such things.
Guzman has reportedly compained not being allowed to sleep by his guards since he returned to prison. His lawyers and his wife are expressing their concern for El Chapo's health as well.
Gustavo Salas Chavez of the Attorney General's Office also released a statement saying that authorities will be confirming the identity of the woman and will invite her to make a formal complaint about her statements.
