Catonsville Shooting: 36-Year-Old Veteran Baltimore Police Officer Killed in Shootout

By

Officer Jason Schneider, a Baltimore County police officer, was shot and killed early Wednesday while serving a search warrant at a Catonsville, Maryland home, CBS Baltimore Local reported.

Schneider was shot during a shootout at the home and was pronounced dead at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, local news said.

Baltimore County Police Chief James Johnson said that Schneider was at the home to serve a warrant related to a shooting that occurred last week. Schneider was shot several times as he and another officer entered the house.

"We know the suspects clearly knew that we were police officers," Officer Johnson said.

Schneider was a member of the department's tactical unit whose duties include serving high-risk warrants. He was a 13-year veteran of the police force.

"He was extraordinarily experienced, a leader within that unit," Johnson said. "This is a terrible loss for Baltimore County. His noble work is greatly appreciated. "Even today, the best equipment, the best training, the best planning, the best execution of the detail, the round makes its way through and takes the life of this very brave man," Johnson said.
