Jodi Arias: Convicted Murderer's Retrial Date Concerning the Penalty Phase Expected to be Announced Monday (Video)

Convicted murderer Jodi Arias will return to court on Monday afternoon in Maricopa County, Arizona on Monday, in which Judge Sherry Stephens is expected to set a date for her sentencing phase retrial, the Associated Press reported.

Stephens on Monday said that prosecutors need time to respond to defense requests for jurors' Twitter user names and to restrict live television coverage of the proceedings. Stephens set a September 16 hearing to consider those requests, ABC News reported.

Arias was convicted of first-degree murder on May 8 in the death of her boyfriend Travis Alexander in his home. The same jury failed to reach a decision on whether she should get the death penalty. Prosecutors have expressed a desire for a new jury to consider that question.

Arias' lawyers have said she killed Alexander in self-defense while prosecutors argued it was premeditated murder.

After her conviction, Arias' attorneys sought to throw out the jury's finding that made her eligible for the death penalty. If she does not receive a death sentence, Arias would serve a life in prison with eligibility of release after 25 years.

If the new jury deems that Arias killed Alexander in an 'especially cruel' manner, that would make her eligible for the death penalty. Her lawyers contended in July that the definition of "especially cruel" is too vague for jurors with no legal experience.
