ISU Bomb Threat: Official Says School is Secure After Handwritten Note Found on Campus

By

Illinois State University President Timothy Flanagan said that there was nothing suspicious even after a day after a handwritten bomb threat was discovered in the school bathroom, the Associated Press reported.

"Nothing suspicious has been discovered and the building remains safe and secure. Over the years, threatening notes of this type have appeared on several occasions, not only at Illinois State, but on college campuses across the country.

Tightened security will remain in place through Friday.

"We must take these communications seriously. After receiving the communication, University police immediately contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement agencies. While we have not cancelled classes at Schroeder Hall, we are taking multiple steps to ensure the safety of all students, faculty and staff members who use the building,” Flanagan said.

Flanagan saidthe school contacted the FBI as a precaution, as reported by ABC News.

The bomb warning comes only one day after a 20-year-old gunman Michael Brandon Hill opened fire at an Atlanta-area elementary school on Tuesday, before he surrendered to authorities. In that case, there were not any students or teachers were reported to have been injured.
