Samsung Galaxy S5 on Verizon Gets Security Patches; Official Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update Expected in March

Verizon Wireless has just released the security update to its Samsung Galaxy S5 units since earlier today. This is reported to be in preparation for the official release of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow in March as the device already went through the beta program weeks ago.

Samsung Galaxy S5 of Verizon Wireless has just received the Android security update today. According to the mobile carrier itself, the update will help optimize performance, resolve known bugs, put on latest security patches and improve the overall device performance. The new software version of the device is LRX21T.G900VVRU2BOK3.

Verizon clarified that the update is the most up to date which means Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow is yet to come. On its support page, it noted that Galaxy S5 owners who wish to download the said update must first connect the device to Wi-Fi or a strong Verizon network.

It added that battery must be fully charged before kicking the update off. Users are also advised to allow additional time for the apps on the device to pursue downloading after the update.

Bear in mind that estimated software download time is six to 10 minutes whiles estimated software update time is also six to 10 minutes. To proceed with the installation, go to Settings > About tablet/phone > System updates.

Once the download is completed, advisory will pop up that the new version of software is set to be installed. Just click "Install now".

For automatic download, Verizon shall notify device owners over the air. Just tap "Download now" and follow on-screen instructions. The update can also be conducted using network connection.

To update while roaming, the device should be connected to a Wi-Fi and then follow on-screen instructions.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow brings known features like Now on Tap. This feature helps users to be on the right track with suggestions already given like maps, locations, nearby restaurants, reviews, etc.
