A Hyundai recall issued Wednesday affects about 240,000 older model sedans, Newsmax reported. Sonatas and Azeras may also succumb to corrosion in cold-weather states that may affect rear wheel alignment, Reuters also reported.
Hyundai is recalling about 23,000 SUVs total in the U.S. and Canada due to the potential of its axles failing off. This would cause cars to ultimately lose all its power. The recall affects the 2013 Santa Fe Sport models with front-wheel-drive and 2.4 liter, four cylinder engineers built between mid July of last year through March of this year, news reports said.
The recall involvs 240,000 Sonata and Azera sedans manufactured between 2005 and 2011. The aforementioned recall of the Santa Fe Sport SUV concerns the driveshaft on the right front axle cracking, which separates the shaft, causing the vehicle to crash. Two owners last month complained about losing vehicle control, but there have been no reported accidents due to the malfunction, according to Hyundai.
Kia Motors has also recalled 9.345 Sorrento Crossovers.
Hyundai intends to contact affected owners of the vehicles next month, as dealers will inspect and repair damaged parts free of charge, the AP reported.
There have been no reported crashes or injuries associated with the problems with corrosion or axle separation, Kia and Hyundai told the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration.
