Washington Redskins sue former player HB Blades over $40,000 mispayment

Former linebacker H.B Blades was sued by his former team, the Washington Redskins. The complaint started after the team mistakenly paid Blades an extra $40,000 due to a clerical error.

According to the case, the Redskins paid Blades a compensation of $40,000 on September 28, 2012. A year after, the team mistakenly paid the former athlete another $40,000 which was said to be a result of a clerical error.

A month after the second payment, the team demanded that Blades return the money. However, the former player wasn't able to give the money back, forcing the NFL Management Council to file a grievance on behalf of the Redskins seeking repayment for the error they made last 2014, as per The Washington Post.

A series of arbitration was made between Blades and the Redskins management. The former player agreed to pay $20,658.88 which represents his take home pay less the tax and withholdings which were agreed to be paid in installment. But Blades failed to give the payment, forcing the arbiter to let him pay the full amount last March 2015.

In the brief course of his career in the NFL, Blades was able to make 139 tackles. The former player was able to return to action after being removed from the team, Bleacher Report noted. Blades is now an assistant high school coach in the Carolinas.

According to Deadspin, Blades was a sixth-round pick from Pittsburgh who was able to play four seasons for Washington before the team cut him off in 2011. The Redskins are known as the third richest team in the NFL according to Forbes magazine during its 2015 team valuation.

That is the reason why the team is being mocked in social media regarding the length the management would go just to get back a small amount of money considering their financial status in the league. Senior vice president for communications Tony Wyllie declined to comment and said the team is focused on the combine in Indianapolis.
