James DiMaggio, the kidnapping and murder suspect sought in a national manhunt, may be armed with improvised or may have rigged his car with them, San Diego County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jan Caldwell said Thursday, as reported by CNN.
Dimaggio is suspected of kidnapping 16-year-old Hannah Anderson and possibly her 8-year-old brother Ethan, after killing their mother Christina over the weekend.
"I can't fathom what happened in Jim's head. He obviously lost it," Brett Anderson, the father of the two kids said. "You've taken everything. The damage is done. Just let my daughter go. Let her go home safe, let her be with me and try to mend things from here."
Law enforcement officials continue to search for clues to try and find the 40-year-old suspect.
"We've got law enforcement agencies across the country looking for them and following up on tips that are being called in. We've received numerous tips. I'd say probably well over 100, possibly hundreds of tips across the country. Every tip that can be followed up on has been followed up on or is currently being followed up on.," said Sheriff's Department Lt. Glenn Giannantonio.
An Amber Alert was issued in Oregon on Wednesday for a possible sighting of DiMaggio's car but later San Diego police said that tip did not pan out.
An arrest warrant for murder has been issued for DiMaggio.
He reportedly burned down DiMaggio's home, and Hannah's mother Christina remains were found while firefighters extinguished a blaze there.
Hannah Anderson was last seen last Saturday at cheerleading practice
