Deftones Front Act Pokes Fun at Kanye West During New Album Press Release

By

Deftones has just announced that it will be releasing its eighth studio album on April 8, 2016. The album of this California-based rock band will be released by Warner Bros. Records and was produced by Matt Hyde and Deftones.

On an interview with a UK-based magazine called Kerrang!, the lead singer of the band spoke about the new album title, Gore. The singer shares that he finds both the title and the artwork as a juxtaposition of one another. For Chino Moreno, this was a very beautiful mix.

Moreno goes on to share that the band has always toyed with the "yin-and-yang of things," provocative and beautiful. He shares that while their last two album titles were more optimistic, the new album title has been intentionally different. As a matter of fact, Moreno says that "this record is very different."

When comparing the last two albums, "Diamond Eyes" and "Koi No Yokan," Moreno shares that he felt they were more like sibling records in numerous ways. The band particularly recorded the two albums in similar ways, making sure that the outlook of both albums were optimistic. With Gore, Moreno shares that the album was recorded in a different way.

Even though it's still very much a Deftones record, Moreno shared that they didn't have any new influences that changed it. He says that "it's an expansion of what we were comfortable with. And it's important to get out of your comfort zone sometimes with the music - just to be excited. It's got a different look. A different shade of color. I'd say some shade of purple. I don't know why, but I think it sits somewhere between pink, red and purple. Sometimes when I hear music, I see color, and when it came time to work on the artwork for this batch of songs, I knew exactly what I wanted."

During a press release, Pitchfork reported that Moreno poked fun of Kanye West, referencing just how good they expect their album to be. "Out of respect for Pac, Big, Stevie, Michael, Hendrix, Gore is ONE of the greatest albums not the greatest, just one of." Back when West was promoting his Waves album, he also used the statement saying "Out of respect for Q-Tip, Puff, Hov, Lauren, Pharcyde, Mary, Stevie, Michael, Hendrix, James, Pete Rock, Pac, Marvin... this new album is ONE of the greatest albums not the greatest, just one of..."

Pre-orders for the new album is available at the band's website. For those who will pre-order, they can receive a download to the first single "Prayers/Triangles." Among the tracks included in the album are Acid Hologram, Doomed User, Hearts and Wires, Gore, Geometric Headdress, and many more.
