A former NFL player was arrested on Monday morning with regards to the charges filed against him from an incident back in January.

Tampa Police confirmed that Cosey Coleman, a former player for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was arrested at his home at 11:30 am. The arrest warrant was originally slated for January 11. The player was arrested after being reported to be involved in an altercation back in January.

During the incident in January, the 37-year-old player was said to have struck Rico Jemart Simmons on the face. This led the 40-year-old Tampa resident to be knocked down to the ground. Coleman was said to have been escorted out of Ducky's Sports Lounge by security personnel.

Unfortunately, this was not the last of the incident. According to security personnel, Coleman waited for Simmons to leave the bar. When he finally did, Coleman was said to have retrieved a handgun from his vehicle parked in the bar's parking area. Coleman was then said to have raised his arm to point the gun at Simmons before security grabbed the NFL player and firing or pointing the weapon to Simmons. Police officers were then called to the scene.

When the police arrived, Coleman had left the bar. This was the time that police issued an arrest warrant for Coleman. The NFL player was charged with a couple of felony counts of battery and aggravate assault with a deadly weapon.

Following his arrest on Monday, Coleman posted bail of $15,000. He was later released in the day.

Coleman played as an offensive lineman for the team from 2000-2004. During his stay with the Bucs, Coleman played a total of five seasons in the NFL plus a couple of seasons more for another team. In 2006, he finished his career playing for the Cleveland Browns.
