Rock Singer Awie Charged With Domestic Abuse By Ex-Wife; Pleads Not Guilty

By

Ahmad Azhar Othman, who is also known as the Rock singer Awie of local band Wings, was charged for domestic abuse by his former wife, Rozana Misbun. After reading the charge against him in Magistrate Husna Dzulkifly, the rock star pleaded not guilty. This has been the second assault case filed against him involving his ex-wife.

According to AsiaOne, Ahmad Azhar Othman was charged after causing hurt on Rozana Misbun, the singer's former spouse. The complaint was filed at the Jalan Tun Razak PNB counter on June 2, 2014 at 3 P.M.

It is worth nothing that the charge, which is under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, is synonymous to two years of imprisonment or a fine of RM4,000 - or both - if found guilty. The 38-year-old Rozana Misbun, the complainant, reportedly lodged a police report on 19th of July 2014.

Aside from a bail request of RM6,000, DPP Ahmad Zikri Jaafar sought additional conditions such as a restraining order against the artiste towards the prosecution witnesses or the victim. However, also pleading for lower bail, the 46-year-old Ahmad Azhar Othman's lead counsel, Hazman Harun, asked the court to consider the notion that the rock singer had cooperated with the Police throughout the entire investigation. Malaysiakini reported that Awie had turned up every time the police seek his attention and that he always presented himself whenever the court asked him to do so.

Malay Mail Online reported that Husna has set the bail at RM2,000 and that Awie should never conduct intimidating actions towards the victim and/or witnesses. February 25 has been set as the date for the mention.

It was on July 4, 2014 when the Wings singer, Ahmad Azhar Othman, pleaded not guilty in the Ampang Magistrate's Court. It was a charge due to grievous hurt on his former wife, Rozana, at a house in Taman Ukay Bistari, Ukay Perdana, Hulu Kelang, at 1:30 P.M on June 2, 2014.

As of this writing, there has been no further details released on Ahmad Azhar Othman's case. Nonetheless, the hearing is expected to continue come February 25 of this year.
