Sony is one of the smartphone makers who have promised to deliver the Android 6.0 Marshmallow firmware to its devices. Although it has been slow, the company is bound to release the operating system update to Xperia Z5, Z5 Compact and Z5 Premium soon.
According to Bitbag, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow for the Sony Xperia Z5, Z5 Compact, and Z5 Premium are being rolled out in some parts of the world. The release of the Marshmallow firmware started particularly in Turkey, but the software update is expected to be released in other regions too.
Last week, Sony's Z3 series was reported to obtain the Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade with the beta tester to receive it first. Evidently, they would test the new Android UI before it will be released to public and provide feedback constantly on Sony's official Google+ group.
Although Sony Z5, Z5 Compact, Z5 Premium, Z4, and Z3 series are set to receive the firmware, some reports claim it would land the Z3 series first before the current flagships. However, Sony hasn't stated any release schedule for its devices yet, so this is still subject to change.
Meanwhile, upon upgrading to Android 6.0 Marshmallow firmware, users of the Xperia handsets will experience the new "Voice" API and "Assist" API, the Google settings app and the "Direct Share" feature, and an associated app will be used as direct targets.
The Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS will also bring new power management programs called "Doze" and "App Standby". Alongside those, a native support intended for fingerprint recognition for selected devices will arrive as well, which will be useful to Android Pay. The said software will also carry in support for USB Type-C, microSD, and reverse charging.
Furthermore, the Sony Xperia handsets that will obtain the Android 6.0 Marshmallow can start availing the Google Now on Tap feature. It offers shortcuts for searching added contextual information and distributes it at any turn.
Aside from the Sony Xperia Z5 series, Gospel Herald cited other Xperia devices that are eligible for the update. The list include Sony Xperia Z3+, Sony Xperia Z3, Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet, Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Sony Xperia Z2, Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet, Sony Xperia M5, Sony Xperia C5 Ultra, Sony Xperia M4 Aqua and Sony Xperia C4.
The Android 6.0 Marshmallow firware is expected to be rolled out gradually since it is an over-the-air update. For the Xperia handsets under Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and US Cellular, the release schedule may vary, so subscribers are advised to wait for their carrier's announcement.
