Ex-NY Governor Eliot Spitzer under investigation over allegation of choking woman in a Manhattan Hotel

Authorities are now investigating former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer after a woman accused him of choking her at a Manhattan hotel, which his representative has denied.

According to NBC News, the former governor, who has had his fair share of the spotlight after revelations of him being part of a prostitution ring leading to his resignation, is accused of choking a 25-year-old woman at Plaza Hotel in Manhattan. Reports are saying that there is a video showing the politician with the unidentified woman going up to the hotel.

The New York Police Department released a statement saying that the victim indicated Spitzer but the investigation is still ongoing, so other details about the woman and the nature of the incident are yet to be disclosed, CNN reported.

Authorities have not yet interviewed Spitzer who has not been charged with any crime, People reported. However, his spokeswoman claimed that there is no truth to the allegations made against him.

The woman's allegations claimed Spitzer was her boyfriend when the choking incident happened. Officials received a call from "an emotionally disturbed person," according to a source, last Saturday and they went to the aforementioned hotel.

The woman reportedly had self-inflicted cuts to her wrists and was taken to a hospital.

The former governor showed up in the same hospital where the woman was taken and even tried to hide his face with a skull cap. According to the police, the source claimed the two got into a verbal argument which later turned physical.

The woman is of Russian nationality and has left the United States after the incident.

Spitzer served as the governor of New York from 2007 to 2008 shortly after the reports about him being part of the aforementioned prostitution ring surfaced. He reportedly patronized a high-end escort service and was married at that time. He and his now ex-wife, Silda Wall Spitzer, divorced in 2013.
