History Might Not Repeat Itself: US 1930’s Dustbowl Won’t Happen Again

By

Scientists have proven that there are many ways to prevent the devastating occurrence that ruined the crops during 1930's Dustbowl. Scientists and farmers are now more knowledgeable and they know what will happen if they won't solve the upcoming problem.

Great drought and intensive farming practices were what have brought Dustbowl during the 1930's. In this century, those things are happening again but it won't have the same effect. According to Live Science, same occurrences will not immediately lead to Dustbowl but might have the same outcome over time. During the 1930's, the fertile soils that supported the United States food supply became a huge pile of dust, also there were different dust storms that occurred in between. It brought great disturbances and devastated the farmers and their families.

BBC reported that chances of Dustbowl happening again are very small. Though Earth will heat up in the coming years, it will not have similar effects during the 1930's. Doctor Joshua Elliot of the American Association for the Advancement of Science talked about the ways to prevent Dustbowl from happening again. He said that states should not focus on harvesting one type of crop so the land would be cultivated and healthy.

Express stated that though technology is far more advance during this time, it did nothing to help completely eliminate the chances of Dustbowl happening again. Now that Earth is heating up more, drought is there. Food supply will definitely be affected as the lands can no longer suffice the nutrients needed of crops.

Francis Kilkenny, who leads the Great Basin Native Plant Project, said it's a brutal and recurring cycle. However, Dustbowl can be prevented now because the people know what things that might happen if same consequences will occur. But if Dustbowl will happen during this time and age, there will be more costs to the farmers, scientists together with the consumers.
