Author George R.R. Martin previously confirmed through his personal blog that the next book in the 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series entitled 'Winds of Winter' will not hit the shelves before Season 6 of Game of Thrones is released. However, the delay did not keep fans from speculating on the possible direction the plot is heading.

Martin stated in his blog that although he was able to finish several chapters and pages, the next book in the series is still not ready yet. As reported by The Bitbag, Martin the renowned author stated in his post that the book is still months away from getting finished and will not be released before Game of Thrones Season 6's release in April.

However, fans need not worry as Martin assured that the next season of the TV series will not bring big spoilers to the book as the stories have diverged. "Some of the 'spoilers' you may encounter in season six may not be spoilers at all... because the show and the books have diverged, and will continue to do so", Martin posted.

Several plot speculations have surfaced for Winds of Winter, one of which suggests that the next book could revolve partly around Khaleesi's journey to burn down Volantis. According to International Business Times, a Reddit user claimed that the Dothrakis surrounding Khaleesi during the previous season might indicate her return to the Vaes Dothrak.

The fan theory indicates that Khaleesi could try to gain the trust of Dothrakis and gather their army to cross the Narrow Sea. Along the way, it is speculated that Khaleesi might stop in several cities in her journey, for one could be Volantis that is rumored to be toppled down in a battle. Rumors also have it that Khaleesi's arrival in Westeros might be elaborated in the next book, 'A Dream of Spring'.

Moreover, as reported by Christian Post, recent claims surfaced that Martin could tap 'The Sandman' writer Neil Gaiman to co-author the next book. Eventhough it has not been confirmed as of yet, many are considering Gaiman and Martin's partnership in the next book as it could bring new twists that would make the book even more amazing.

It is also rumored that both Martin and Gaiman were previously spotted in the same area in New Mexico which further fueled the co-authorship speculation. However, it is worth noting that until George R.R. Martin releases official details about the Winds of Winter as well as A Dream of Spring, such rumors must be treated with a grain of salt.
