'Kai the Hatchet-Wielding Hitchhiker' is Arrested in Philadelphia; Details of Perverted Episode Preceding Murder Emerge (Video)

The drifter, Caleb Lawrence McGillvary, better known as Kai, who became an Internet sensation just a couple months ago after a bizarre violent attack in Fresno, California when he used a hatchet to "save" someone who had just crashed into him, has now been arrested for murder.

New Jersey police said that Kai is responsible for a deadly beating of a New Jersey lawyer, ABC30 reported. Other unsolved murders in the past weeks may also be linked to McGillvary

"We have located various points along the way where he has been and we have determined there may have been some homicides along the way," said Union County prosecutor Ted Romankow.

Police in Philadelphia made the arrest at a Greyhound bus station on Thursday evening.

McGillvary was arrested and charged with the murder of Joseph Galfy Jr., a 73-year-old attorney.

"I believe that everyone is a little safer with this person off the streets," said Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.

McGillvary will be processed in Philadelphia and sent to back to New Jersey in the coming days, Romankow said. His bail is set at $3 million.

Galfy was found dead in his Clark, New Jersey home on Monday, two days after authorities said he met McGillvary in New York City.

Galfy, who lived alone, was found by police who went to his home to check on his well-being, Romankow said. Statements posted on McGillvary's Facebook page following the homicide were "sexual in nature," Romankow said.

McGillvary's last post, dated Tuesday, asks "what would you do?" if you awoke in a stranger's house and found you'd been drugged and sexually assaulted. One commenter suggests hitting him with a hatchet - and McGillvary's final comment on the post says, "I like your idea."

A family member told a news affiliate that he used a hatchet since he was very young. The family member indicated that he is crazy and the family was worried he was on his way to his native Canada after the New Jersey murder.

Police in New Jersey used Internet video to identify Kai as the suspect in the murder of 73-year-old lawyer Joseph Galfy. No longer sporting the wavy-haired look, Kai has since altered his appearance.

"As I've learned on YouTube, he had long flowing hair," Romankow said. "He had cut his hair."

Kai's arrest came three days after the murder and 80 miles away.

"Any time you get a drifter and then all of the sudden he's being charged with a homicide, it would be a lack of responsibility for us not to look into that possibility," Romankow said.
