Former Jersey Nets Player Jayson Williams Charged with Drunk Driving After a Car Crashed Accident in New York

Ex-Jersey Nets player and NBA All star Jayson Williams has been charged with drunk driving, crashing his vehicle on a utility pole in upstate town in New York. The retired sports star already served more than a year in jail over a limo driver's accidental death in 2002.

According to Wall Street Journal, the 47 year old retiree crashed his 2012 Jeep Wrangler into a utility pole overturn the vehicle in Hortonville, Delaware, New York. The car accident occurred 11:36pm on the 26th of January. Authorities reported said, Williams was driving his way to his home when he swerved to avoid a deer on the road.

However, the police said, Williams was having trouble standing, was slurring his speech and even failed a field on sobriety test. Williams was charged with driving while intoxicated and will appear in Delaware Town's court on March 23. New York Post reported, Williams previously played as a Nets player and 76ers.

He had major leg injury during a 1999 regular season game play with the Atlanta Hawks. According to Christian Post, he broke his right leg after a collision he had with his co-player Stephen Marbury on the game. He undergo surgery, however, the injury prompted him to put an end to his basketball career. He never had committed any violation during his career in basketball. However, his life after being a professional basketball took a different turn. Williams retired from the New Jersey Nets in 1999.

He was sentenced to five years in prison in 2010 after pleading guilty to aggravated assault in connection with the 2002 shooting death of limousine driver Costas "Gus" Christofi at William's Alexandria Township estate.

Williams was moved to Riker's Island in 2011 to serve an additional year-long sentence with his convictions of a driving while intoxicated, stemming from a separate incident in Manhattan. He was then released on April 13, 2012, after serving eight months of the sentence.
