"XXX3: The Return of Xander Cage" has beefed up its casting with an interesting ensemble of casts. Some old faces are returning and new ones are making an entry. K-pop fans will be ecstatic to discover that Kris Wu, former member of the mega Korean boy band EXO, is set to join the cast of "XXX3."
Director D.J. Caruso made the announcement on Saturday via Twitter, as noted by KDramaStars. Caruso welcomed Kris Wu to the "Xander Zone," alongside 22-year-old actress Hermione Corfield ("Pride and Prejudice and Zombies).
Following his short-lived singing career with EXO, Kris Wu moved back to China where he jumpstarted a booming acting career. He starred in the 2015 romantic drama titled "Somewhere Only We Know". His film "Mr. Six" also screened at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival.
The soonest fans can see Kris Wu will be at the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game 2016, which will air on Feb. 12 on ESPN. NBA reported that the 26-year-old Chinese-Canadian star will join Drake's Team and will get to play with NBA superstars Steve Nash and Tracy McGrady.
The cast list is looking quite impressive. Also confirmed to star in the movie are Jet Li, Tony Jaa, Nina Dobrev, Ruby Rose and Samuel L. Jackson.
There's still not a lot of news regarding the plot for "XXX3: The Return of Xander Cage." However, a plausible storyline would involve two badass teams going against one another.
Revolution Studio COO Scott Hemming hinted that Jet Li's character, Raif, will be pitted against Diesel's Xander Cage. The two will reportedly have "incredible stunts" for "XX3."
Vin Diesel will reprise his role as Xander Cage, the main lead in 2002 action movie "XXX". Ice Cube, who replaced Diesel in the sequel, "XXX: State of the Union". In the "XXX: State of the Union," Vin Diesel's Xander Cage was supposedly killed, making way for Ice Cube's Darius Stone to take over the XXX handle. It would be interesting to see how Xander Cage would be resurrected for "XX3: The Return of Xander Cage."
Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone has been cast as Xander's lover, Serena.
Oscar-nominated actress Toni Collette will also join the ensemble, Hollywood Reporter noted. She will appear as a bureaucrat from the intelligence service.
D.J. Caruso is set to direct, with F. Scott Frazier in charge of the script. Filming will take place in Toronto, Canada and the Dominican Republic.
"XXX3: The Return of Xander Cage" is aiming for a 2017 release date.
