Sheri Williams was shot and killed on Monday afternoon when stray bullets, clearly meant for somebody else, hit her directly in the chest as she in the doorway of her apartment on 64th Court Way South in Birmingham, Alabama, according to local police.
Her 10-day-old son was in her arms, but was not hurt in the gun fire.
Birmingham Police Sgt. Johnny Williams said the 24-year-old Williams was outside as shots rang out Monday afternoon.
Officials said that two men at a nearby store had gotten into a fight and her murder was a case of bad timing, CBS/AP said. One of the men chased the other and fired a gun as he ran down the block, police described.
Williams was hit by a stray bullet and was pronounced dead at the scene, The Birmingham News reported.
Birminigham police have not made any arrests in the shooting, but are looking for what they describe as a black man in a white tank top and a black woman in a yellow shirt who is missing some braids, according to the descriptions given out in notices.
