Johnny Manziel may have dodged an arrest for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend Colleen Crowley but his future in the NFL still remains in limbo. The White Dallas PD has closed its investigation but the Fort Worth Police Department is still looking into the situation.
The incident started in Uptown Dallas in Hotel ZaZa over an argument that escalated to an ugly episode. Crowley told authorities that Manziel gave her a deafening slap on her left ear and threatened to kill her and commit suicide. Eventually, the two reached Crowley's Fort Worth apartment where the argument continued. She said that Manziel smashed her phone in anger before going outside and running away on foot, WFAA8 reported.
In response, the Manziel denied the claims. "It didn't happen. I'm completely stable. I'm safe and secure," he said.
Despite the claims, no formal charges will be filed against the athlete. The NFL has confirmed that it is aware of the police report.
Meanwhile, Cleaveland Browns director of football operations told ESPN. "We've been clear about expectations for our players on and off the field. Johnny's continual involvement in incidents that run counter to those expectations undermines the hard work of his teammates and the reputation of our organization."
The latest incident leaves Manziel's NFL career in limbo. Browns is scheduled to release the Heisman Trophy winner next month due to constant legal troubles and inconsistent play, LA Times reported.
Manziel's past two seasons have been on the rocks due to off-field issues. During the 2015 off season, Maziel went to rehab seeking treatment for alcohol addiction.
On May 30 last year, he became involved in an incident when he threw a water bottle against a heckler who had been continuously asking for his autograph. The bottle hit the wall but Security and Police were called.
