Authorities in Cincinnati, Ohio responded to reports that a student pulled a gun and shot himself inside a La Salle High School classroom in front of this classmates on Monday morning, 10TV reported. Officials were called to the school on North Bend Road around 9 a.m. In an apparent suicide attempt, the student remains in the hospital.
The high school was put on lock-down, as students were escorted to the gymnasium after the incident, according to WKRC, but as of Monday afternoon, there is no active threat at the school, as it was an isolated incident
La Salle High School an all male parochial and private school west of Cincinatti.
"A student produced a gun inside one of the classrooms and shot himself..." Green Township Police Chief Bart West told reporters.
"We just ask that you pray for him and his family," said Greg Tankersley, director of community development at the school said. "It's a tragic situation for this young man," he added.
We're going to go back and look at everything," Tankersley replied when ask about how the student was able to get a gun into the school, but added that Monday's priority was the condition of the wounded student who attempted suicide, and the well-being -psychological or otherwise- of the others, he said.
A school official indicated that counselors were meeting with students to both sonsole them, and try to learn more about the student who shot himself. He remains treated at the hospital.
