The lone son of the mysterious missing British earl has finally been granted a death certificate for his father.

George Bingham, the only son of Lord Richard Lucan, has finally been granted a death certificate for his father. This comes as a form of peace of mind for Bingham, after his father, Lord Richard Lucan went missing for more than 40 years since the family's trusted nanny was murdered in his home.

Britain's High Court granted the death certificate on Wednesday after Bingham filed a request. Now that Lord Richard Lucan is finally declared dead with a certificate, Bringham can inherit his father's title as he becomes the Eighth Earl of Lucan.

"I am very happy with the judgment of the court in this matter. It has been a very long time coming," said Bingham in a statement, as reported by Yahoo.

Lord Richard Lucan's disappearance has been one of the most bizarre real life happenings in Britain and it the media has been having endless field days on speculations and theories regarding the matter.

Richard Lucan completely disappeared from family and friends after Sandra Rivett's body was found at the family's home on November 7, 1974. Rivett was the family's nanny and was a trusted servant. Veronica, Lucan's wife, was also at the scene and was found hit in the head several times when she went downstairs to investigate the happenings.

The Earl's car, which was bloodstained, was found in the English south coast. People and the media speculated that Lucan killed himself by drowning in the English Channel after the murder, but his body was never found, according to Times of India.

A year later, Lucan was declared by an inquest jury as the nanny's killer. It was said that Lucan wanted to kill his wife, but ended up killing the nanny as a mistake. Lucan was known to have an uncontrollable vice in gambling, and was often referred to as "Lucky Lucan."
