Jeff Bauman, who was seriously injured in the Boston Marathon terror attack tearing his legs apart and rushed to the Boston Medical Center, provided the crucial tip to authorities. While in the intensive-care-unit, he wrote on a sheet of paper he was eye-to-eye with the terrorist. He lost both his legs below the knee as two bombs exploded near the finish line at the marathon, Bloomberg News reported.
"He woke up under so much drugs, asked for a paper and pen and wrote, 'bag, saw the guy, looked right at me," Jeff's brother Chris said in an interview on Thursday. These words helped authorities lead to a massive manhunt of the two suspects, Bloomberg News also reported.
The Boston area was on lockdown through Friday morning after law enforcement officials killed Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the 26-year-old terror suspect. Authorities ultimately captured his brother Dzhokar Tsarnaev on Friday evening.
These events followed a night of violent clashes between the two men and authorities, which left MIT officer Sean Collier killed from gunshot wounds. A transit police officer, Richard Donahue, was also shot and is in serious condition during the massive gun battle late Thursday evening in Watertown, according to David Procopio, a Massachusetts State Police spokesman.
Jeff Bauman gave the FBI a description of the suspected terrorist, Chris said. Bauman's information helped investigators narrow down who perpetrated the terror attacks, which killed 3 people, and injuring over 180 people.
"I've had many times alone with him, and yes, he told me every single detail," Chris Bauman said.
