Korean electronics giant Samsung has sent invites to its "Unpacked 2016" event. Rumor has it that Samsung's Galaxy S7 is set to debut on the said event.
According to Mashable, Samsung has already sent invites for its "Unpacked 2016". The event will be held on Sunday, February 21 in Barcelona, Spain. It happens a day before the Mobile World Congress, which is also held in Barcelona.
There are rumors that the Korean smartphone maker is set to unveil the newest incarnation of its Galaxy S line, the Galaxy S7.
The Verge was able to get a hold of Samsung's "Unpacked" invite. The invitation includes an image of a shadowy cube with two edges glowing to form a "7". This is highly suggestive of the Galaxy S7's presence in the said event.
TechCrunch reports that aside from the Samsung Galaxy S7, the new Gear VR Platform may also debut at the "Unpacked 2016" event. A strong indication of this is the teaser trailer released for the event which places a major emphasis on the Gear VR platform.
As for the Samsung Galaxy S7, most rumors point to the devices seeing internal updates rather than a complete face-lift since it was just in August of 2015 that it got a complete re-design.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 could also feature the return of the microSD slot, which was absent from last year's Galaxy update. The smartphone may also feature higher capacity batteries and a possible water resistant feature.
The S7 could reportedly be powered either by Samsung's own Exynos 8 Octa 8890 chip or Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820. The Snapdragon's CPU and GPU are highly notable because they are quoted as "capable of generating photo-realistic graphics for console-quality gaming and next-generation virtual reality apps."
The Samsung "Unpacked 2016" event this February, featuring the rumored Galaxy S7, will be available for streaming on the company's 'Samsung Mobile YouTube channel'.
