A 6-year-old was shot by his 4-year old neighbor. The young victim is in a New Jersey hospital with a gunshot wound, expected to survive. It appears the shooting happened just after 7:00 p.m. Monday in the yard of a home on McCormick Drive in Toms River, Ocean County, New Jersey. The 4-year-old reportedly used a ,22 caliber rifle, ABC News reported.
Police believe the 4-year-old took the gun from inside the house. The child's parents were home at the time. The 6-year-old was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. He is listed in stable condition.
Investigators are still trying to determine how this all unfolded. It is not clear if this was an accidental discharge of the weapon or if the child intentionally pulled the trigger.
