Riverview Gun Sales, the Connecticut shop that sold a gun to the Newtown elementary school's shooter's mother, Nancy Lanza, has lost its federal firearms license, CBS News reported. Authorities raided the store shortly after the December 14 in which Adam Lanza killed 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary School, including 20 children. He also shot his mother.
Authorities said Lanza fired 154 shots with a Bushmaster .223-caliber rifle inside the school before killing himself with a Glock handgun.
Nancy Lanza purchased a Bushmaster from Riverview, though it has yet to be confirmed whether that is the exact weapon he used in the shooting, with the probe still ongoing.
The gun shop owner David LaGuercia said that Nancy Lanza bought a gun from him years prior, but he was unable to remember which kind. That being said, he said he continues to cooperate with law enforcement.
"There's nothing more devastating than the loss of a child. We are absolutely appalled that the product that we sold several years ago would be used in this type of horrendous crime. Our hearts go out to the victims and the families," LaGuercia said in a statement in December. His wife said the story remains open to selling ammunition and other items as appeals the revocation.
Part of Connecticut's new legislation signed into law includes adding more than 100 firearms to the state's assault weapons ban, creating what officials have called the nation's first dangerous weapon offender registry as well as eligibility rules for buying ammunition. Background checks for all firearms sale will take effect immediately, now that Governor Dannel Molloy has signed this new bill earlier this week, news reports said.
