A capital murder suspect and a convicted drug offender were the subject of a two-day manhunt, after escaping from a Texas jail. They are back in lockup after being cornered in a barn about 20 miles away from the penitentiary, the Associated Press reported. Brian Allen Tucker and John Marlin King were returned to the jail in Sulphur Springs, about 75 miles northeast of Dallas, from where they fled on Tuesday, authorities said.
Hopkins County sheriff's Brad Cummings said that the authorities received dozens of reports from people who thought they had seen one or both of the fugitives since the escape. They were ultimately caught after an attempt to pawn jewelry left in a vehicle they allegedly stole in Sulphur Springs, which brought authorities to a Cooper, Texas hideout, Delta County Sheriff Ricky Smith said.
Officials also arrested the owner of the barn, Charles Ensey, who was being held in the Delta County Jail in Cooper. He was charged with two counts of hindering arrested.
King and Tucker reportedly fled the Hokpkins County Jail on Tuesday by scaling a fence or slipping through a gap in the perimeter fence, which led to a massive manhunt in the woods, northeast of the jail.
Tucker previously was convicted of burglary and driving while intoxicated, and had been arrested several times for violating parole. King, meanwhile, was held on several charges, including evading arrest, burglary and possession of a controlled substance.
Court documents indicate that he pleaded guilty as a habitual offender, which received him a 40-year sentence.
