A 21-year-old Michigan man was convicted of murdering and torturing 28-year-old neighbor by a Saginaw, Michigan jury on Wednesday, UPI.com reported. Lashon T. Hollman was arrested on charges of dropping a television on Cassandra Nelson and then stabbing her 54 times inside her apartment on February 1, 2012. He will serve a life prison sentence, according to FOX 8 TV.
After a week and half of court hearings, the jury of eight women and four men only took about 15 minutes to deliberate and convict Hollman of first-degree premeditated murder, torture, and carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent.
Nelson probably fell unconscious after being hit with the TV, stopped breathing, and later drowned in her own blood, a County Medical Examiner testified during the trial.
His body was then stabbed 54 times in the upper back and neck, and police found a bloody knife underneath Nelson's bed.
In the courtroom, Hollman reportedly lowered his head when the verdict was read.
His sentencing hearing is on May 9, which will also be presided by Saginaw County Judge Darnell Jackson.
