After two golfers heard gunshots on Tuesday, they investigated and scoped out their nearby Tallahassee neighborhood. What they found moments later were the bodies of two female victims behind an apartment complex, adjacent to the course, the Associated Press reported.
Leon County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. James McQuaig said the golfers spotted the two women near Hilaman Golf Course in the state's capital.
"They made the discovery," McQuaig said. "They called 911 and waited for us to get there."The names of the victims had yet to be released on Tuesday night, nor were their ages given out to the public.
Autopsies on the victims are scheduled for Wednesday. The golfers did not see anyone fleeing but are certain shots rang out.
"Police are canvassing the neighborhood, conducting witness interviews and crime scene detectives are on scene and they are collecting forensic evidence," McQuaig added.
The mysterious story was reminiscent of another golf course shooting from last year in Reno, Nevada, as reported by The Inquistr.
In that case, a golfer accidentally broke the window of a nearby house, sending the homeowner running outside with a gun. The man fired a few shots. No one, in that incident ended up getting hurt in the shooting.
In this case, however, the golfers found the 2 bodies quickly after the shots rang out, Police in Tallahassee have not divulged if they have any suspects in mind or what the motive for the shooting could have been. The names of the victims are due to be released later on Wednesday at a news conference scheduled.
